In 1985, 11 Maple Street opened in a Florida cracker house built in 1905 at 3224 NE Maple Ave. It had one dining room and eight tables. Mike Perrin founded it with his wife, Margie, and his mother, Nita, at an address far enough off the main roads that, by Perrin's own telling to TCPalm in 2017, people thought they were crazy to try it. Forty-one years later, the same house has had the most unsettled autumn in its history. That autumn has also set up something downtown Jensen Beach has not had before: two chef-driven dining rooms opening under two separate plans, both aiming at the same holiday season.
Six Weeks, Three Headlines
The sequence matters because each report replaced the one before it. Here is how it ran in TCPalm's dining coverage:
- Aug. 27, 2026. TCPalm reported that 11 Maple Street would reopen Oct. 8 under new owners Shayla and chef Mark Jones. It would keep the same name and get a new fine dining menu, and the new chef, described as Irish, said he was aiming for a Michelin star in 2027.
- Aug. 31, 2026. Broth, the handcrafted soup restaurant in the Pineapple Passage plaza, closed after just over a year.
- Sept. 26, 2026. 11 Maple Street closed for the planned handoff.
- Oct. 8, 2026. On the date the new owners had planned to reopen, TCPalm reported that the sale was cancelled. The 11 Maple Street report said the restaurant would reopen by the end of October under founding chef-owner Mike Perrin.
- Oct. 9, 2026. The follow-up report said Jones now plans to open his own concept, GRÁ, in the space Broth left behind.
In late August, the expectation was one restaurant changing owners. By Oct. 9, it was two restaurants under two owners.
What the Cancelled Sale Actually Added
The August plan would have put new ownership and a new menu in the old cracker house under the old name. For anyone who had been eating at 11 Maple Street since the eight-table days, that meant a familiar room with an unfamiliar kitchen behind it.
The October plans keep both halves of that idea apart. Under Perrin's return, the founding chef-owner goes back to his own kitchen. TCPalm's Oct. 8 headline says the restaurant will reopen with the same owner, and the URL for that story mentions a new menu, so the room may not run exactly as it did before Sept. 26. Jones, meanwhile, takes his project to a second address under a name of his own instead of reworking a restaurant that already has four decades of history. TCPalm's Oct. 9 headline calls GRÁ a "new concept in smaller setting."
Downtown went from expecting one chef's restaurant in transition to expecting two independent ones. The coverage so far does not say whether the Michelin goal Jones described in August carries over to GRÁ. What it does say is that the chef who stated that goal now plans to cook in downtown Jensen Beach regardless.
Pineapple Passage Gets a New Kind of Tenant
GRÁ's planned home is Pineapple Passage at 1939 NE Jensen Beach Blvd., a plaza that TCPalm described in 2025 as new. It sits between Crawdaddy's N'awlin's Grill and Raw Bar and the historic Jensen Beach Inn Hotel. Until now its tenants have been casual, counter-style businesses:
- Celtic Creamery, owned by Aaron and Taylor Drake, which TCPalm reported as new in the plaza in December 2024.
- JoJo's Kitchen, a Tex-Mex spot built around burritos, bowls and salads, which had recently opened as of August 2025.
- Tide & Bean, a coffee trailer that its website says serves daily in the plaza parking lot, reached from NE Ricou Terrace.
- Broth, which opened May 21, 2025, and closed Aug. 31, 2026. Owner Carolyn Perkins announced the permanent closure on Facebook.
If GRÁ opens as planned, a chef who arrived in town talking about a Michelin star would take over a space that until recently served soup. That would be a different kind of tenant for this plaza. Together with 11 Maple Street on Maple Avenue, it would also give downtown a second address for a sit-down dinner booked as an occasion.
The plaza has had at least one other announcement that is still pending. Beachside Brewing Co. was announced for the same address with a projected spring 2026 opening, and no report found during this research confirms that it has opened.
Confirmed Versus Announced
Each step of this story was reported as a plan, and the first plan already changed once. As of Oct. 10, 2026, here is where each piece stands:
| Item | Status as of Oct. 10, 2026 | What has not been reported |
|---|---|---|
| 11 Maple Street sale to Shayla and Mark Jones | Cancelled, per TCPalm on Oct. 8 | A public statement from the Perrins on the cancellation |
| 11 Maple Street reopening | Planned by the end of October under Mike Perrin | A specific reopening date |
| GRÁ at Pineapple Passage | Planned for the former Broth space | Cuisine, suite number, opening date |
| Broth | Permanently closed Aug. 31 | Nothing outstanding |
| Beachside Brewing Co. | Announced for spring 2026 | Any confirmation that it opened |
The August report set a specific reopening date, and that date passed with the dining room still closed. Until 11 Maple Street posts its own date and GRÁ announces a menu, the safest approach is to treat both as late-2026 plans.
The Holiday Calendar Both Rooms Are Heading Into
Timing is the strongest reason this matters right now. If Perrin reopens by the end of October, 11 Maple Street comes back just before downtown's busiest stretch of the year. GRÁ, whenever it opens, will be at 1939 NE Jensen Beach Blvd., the same boulevard where Jammin' Jensen runs every Thursday. These are the dates on the county and Chamber calendars:
- Thursdays through December, 6 to 10 p.m. Jammin' Jensen runs weekly at 1912 NE Jensen Beach Blvd. with local artists, street vendors and music. It is not held on Thanksgiving.
- Thursday, Dec. 3, 6:30 p.m. The Jensen Beach Christmas tree lighting takes place during that week's Jammin' Jensen.
- Friday, Dec. 11. Martin County Parks and Recreation holds Winter Fest at the outdoor amphitheater at the Mansion at Tuckahoe in Jensen Beach.
- Tuesday, Dec. 15, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Jensen Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts Taste of Jensen. The county calendar says the Town of Ocean Breeze golf-cart parade, which is not part of the tree lighting this year, will continue during Taste of Jensen.
Taste of Jensen is the date to watch. It is the Chamber's showcase for downtown food, and it lands in mid-December. By then 11 Maple Street should be several weeks into its reopening if the October plan holds, and GRÁ will have had about two months since its announcement. None of the coverage so far says whether either restaurant will take part. Of all the dates on this year's calendar, it is still the one most likely to show downtown with both kitchens open at once.
For a 41-year-old restaurant that began with eight tables in a house others thought was too out of the way, the end of October is the next date that matters. Perrin's plan is to have the dining room at 3224 NE Maple Ave. open again by then.
Changes on a local dining street, like a landmark sale that falls through or a plaza tenant mix that shifts from casual to chef-led, are the kind of detail Mike Atkins watches when advising clients on the Treasure Coast.
